About this sector

Finance broking is judged here by transparency. The total cost, the commission and the funder panel should all be clear before a client signs, and the brokers listed make them so.

We favour brokers with experience in the assets and sectors that dominate West Yorkshire’s economy: vehicles, plant, manufacturing equipment and commercial fit-outs.

Questions about business & asset finance

What is asset finance?

Asset finance is borrowing secured on the thing being bought — a van, a machine, IT equipment, a fit-out — repaid over its useful life through hire purchase or leasing. It preserves cash and, for most equipment, is quicker to arrange than a bank loan. A broker places the deal with one of many funders, and the funder pays the broker a commission, which must be disclosed if you ask.

Is a finance broker cheaper than going to the bank?

Often, because a broker can place a deal with specialist funders who price particular assets or sectors more keenly than a high-street bank, and because they know which funder will say yes quickly. The exception is a business with a strong banking relationship and a simple request. Compare the total cost over the term, not the monthly payment.
